Sitting at a desk for hours on end can take a real toll on your body. Tight shoulders, a stiff neck, lower back pain: sound familiar?
The good news is that even small, consistent movement breaks throughout your day can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.
Try setting a gentle reminder every 60 to 90 minutes to stand up and move. You don’t need a full workout. Just a minute or two of intentional stretching goes a long way. Roll your shoulders forward and back a few times. Tilt your head gently from ear to ear to release neck tension. Stand up, reach your arms overhead, and take a deep breath. If you can, do a few gentle seated twists by placing one hand on the opposite knee and rotating your torso.
Another great option is a quick walk, even just to the kitchen and back. Movement increases blood flow to your muscles and brain, which can actually help you focus better when you sit back down.
If you’re in a meeting-heavy day and can’t step away, try some discreet moves: flex and point your feet under the desk, squeeze your shoulder blades together, or do a few seated marches. These small actions help counteract the effects of prolonged sitting and keep your energy levels more stable throughout the day.
